Patriot Act Q&A
The following is my answers to questions
regarding the Patriot Act.  I urge you to
read my
Patriot Act Resolution that I
intend to introduce to the County.
Civil Rights and Liberties

? Fairness and justice are high priorities for most Americans. Two of our basic civil rights are access to a
fair trial and the right to an attorney. What would you do to protect these deeply held American values?

I would use my position to petition the courts to uphold the 6th Amendment to the Constitution for all
people living in the USA.

? How do you think we can increase security while maintaining a democratic society?

Our police officers work tirelessly at protecting and serving the community.  The laws that were in place
before 9-11-01 worked well, the small group of men who breeched that wall were lucky and smart.  I
think that with the current laws under the Patriot Act only strip regular citizens of rights, but do not deter
the terrorist.

? Do you believe it is possible to help make our country safe from terrorism and at the same time protect
the Constitutional and human rights of those being interrogated and investigated? If so, how would you
achieve that balance?

We live in a society where you are innocent until proven guilty.  I feel that the Government should uphold
the 6th amendment to all persons held for trial.

? How do you believe local and/or state officials and law enforcement agencies should respond to requests
for cooperation from federal agencies that they believe may violate civil liberties?

The local communities should deny the request from the Federal Government.

? What threats to civil liberties do you see in our community, and how would you address them?

The city of Reidsville passed a resolution last year allowing police officers to search hotel records of guest.
I feel that is a direct violation of ones civil rights, and I will petition the city leaders to repeal that resolution.

? What, if any, limits on free speech and religious freedom would you advocate, given the current threat of
international terrorism?

The 1st Amendment is the only law we need regarding speech.

? Do you think the First, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments of the Bill of Rights should apply only to
citizens or to foreign nationals in our community as well?

Anyone enjoying the benefits of our country should also enjoy the benefits of our Constitution.

The USA PATRIOT Act
? What is your opinion of the USA PATRIOT Act?

The USA Patriot Act, has striped Americans of many rights and I feel it is unconstitutional.

? How would you evaluate the USA PATRIOT Act?s effectiveness?

There is no effectiveness in communisim.

? What changes, if any, to the USA PATRIOT Act would you support and why?

Total elimination of the USA PATRIOT Act is the only change I support.

? Millions of Americans are genuinely concerned that our civil liberties, as articulated in the Constitution
and particularly in the Bill of Rights, are threatened by some provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act and
other government laws and policies.
If elected, what would you do to address their concerns?
I plan on introducing the ?
Patriot Act Resolution?

? Many people are concerned that they may be targeted for their activities and purchases in libraries or
bookstores under the USA PATRIOT Act Section 215. What is your position on Section 215? How
would you address your constituents? concerns?

I will urge all Library employees to not disclose any information on patrons of the public Library.
Community Resolutions

? As of July, 15 2003, 335 communities and 4 states have issued statements against the
USA PATRIOT Act. What is your reaction to this movement and how would you take
action in response to it?

I feel the USA PATRIOT Act has stripped many Americans of essential
freedoms and rights, and if elected I will push for
Rockingham County to become a Civil Liberties ?Safe Zone?.
We have been visited
by the FBI, they
requested your reading
list, now do you feel
much more secure?
